Prayer Behind Women Out of Necessity
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7835 )
Q2: There are mosques where men and women pray. What is the ruling for those who arrive after the prayer has begun, when the women have lined up behind the men on all sides? What should those who arrived and found no place do? Should they pray behind the women, or leave until the women leave, or pray in another place? Please guide us, and may Allah preserve you.
A2: The principle is that men should be closest to the imam, and that women should be in the rear of the mosque; so that a man who arrives late can line up with the men, and so that a path is left to the men’s rows; to enable the entrant
to line up with the men. And if the men do not find a path to the men’s rows, they should line up behind the women out of necessity, and their prayer is valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
