The Time for Paying Zakah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 2299 )
Q1: I received a sum of money in the month of Rajab, and I want to pay its zakah in the month of Ramadan. Is this permissible? The reason for this is that the needy person is identified in the month of Ramadan.
A1: Zakah is obligatory on the two currencies, gold and silver, and what takes their place, such as banknotes and trade goods, when what one owns of them reaches the nisab and a lunar year has passed over it. Accordingly, zakah is obligatory on the amounts you received in Rajab if Rajab of the following year enters after the year in which you owned the nisab. However, if you wish to pay it in the Ramadan of the year in which you owned the nisab, covering the past period of two months, so that your lunar year begins in Ramadan, for the sake of the occasion you mentioned, that is an act of kindness on your part. And if you wish to pay its zakah for the year before the lunar year has completed, to expedite it for the sake of the occasion you mentioned, that is permissible if there is a pressing need to expedite it. As for delaying its payment until Ramadan after the completion of the lunar year in Rajab, this is not permissible, because it is obligatory to pay it immediately.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
