Fatwa number ( 15767 )
Q: We know that the alms of fitr is obligatory on every Muslim, who pays it on behalf of himself and those whose financial maintenance is obligatory upon him, such as a child, a wife, or a servant. If a Muslim’s wife travels to visit her parents in another country and stays for two months or more until the day of the festival at the end of Ramadan arrives while she is with her parents, is it obligatory for her husband to pay the alms on her behalf, or is the alms the responsibility of her parents because she is with them at the time of payment?
A : If the situation is as you described, then the alms of fitr for the wife is obligatory upon her husband. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
