Zakat on Land from the Religion
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 2018 )
Q1: I own a plot of land in Najran, its current value is approximately 60,000 sixty thousand riyals, and I have owned it for three years. Am I required to pay its zakat annually while it is currently uncultivated?
A1: If you intended it for trade, you must pay its zakat for each of the past years based on its value at the end of each lunar year, and you must pay its zakat at the end of each lunar year. If you intended it to build a residence for yourself, there is no zakat on it. If you intend to build on it to rent it out
and benefit from its rental income, you must pay zakat on the rental income that accumulates if a lunar year has passed over it and it reaches the nisab (minimum threshold for zakah) either by itself or when combined with the money you possess. If you intend to cultivate it, you must pay zakat on the grains and fruits that come out of it after cultivation, according to what is known regarding the zakat of grains and fruits. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
