The Prophet's Sa'
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 1241 )
Q3: Regarding the sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), what is its measure in handfulls?
A3: What has been established for us regarding the measure of the Prophetic sa' is that it is the amount of four handfulls in the hands of a man of average build. This is what some scholars mentioned, such as the author of al-Nihayah and al-Qamus. As for the sa' measures found in markets or in mosques, as the questioner mentioned, they vary from one to another. Therefore, the basis for estimation is what the scholars mentioned, estimating it by the handfulls of a man of average build. And Allah knows best. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
