Health insurance cards for students in America
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 9580 )
Q1: We are students in America and the embassy provides us with medical treatment through insurance for every student (insurance), meaning: they pay an insurance company a fee for each student, so every student has a health insurance card. What is your opinion on this, given that treatment
is very expensive? Also, we have some Muslims who are studying or living in America and their financial situation is very weak, and sometimes they are afflicted with serious illnesses or illnesses whose treatment is very expensive, and they cannot pay this amount to the hospital, and no one can or wants to bear the costs of this patient. In this case, can we help him by having him go to the hospital in our name, meaning as if he is the person who has (insurance) and is treated with it, or should we leave him like this without help? An example of the high costs: if a person stays in the hospital under care for a week, the bill comes to more than four thousand dollars.
A1: First: Health insurance is commercial insurance, and it is forbidden. Second: Giving an insurance card to another person who is not registered to be treated with it involves forgery and lying, and this is not permissible, but it is prescribed for you to help him from your money as much as you are able. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
