Fatwa number ( 11711 )
Q: My husband has a private workshop where he manufactures spare parts for people or repairs broken equipment. Sometimes people leave these parts with him, and they neither pay what he is owed for his work nor come to collect them. They remain with him for months, and some items have been there for years. How should we deal with them? Please note that these items are worth more than the fee he is owed for his work. Please issue a ruling, may Allah reward you, and may Allah reward you with good.
A: If he is unable to deliver the spare parts to their owners and it is difficult to identify their heirs, he should sell the mentioned parts, take the fee for his repair from the sale price, and give the remainder in charity on behalf of their owners.
