The third question of Fatwa No. ( 102 )
Q3: If a person is keen to fast in Ramadan and pray in Ramadan only, but abandons prayer as soon as Ramadan ends, is his fasting valid?
A3: Prayer is a pillar of Islam, and it is the most important pillar after the two testimonies. It is an individual obligation. Whoever abandons it while denying its obligation, or abandons it out of negligence and laziness, has committed disbelief. As for those who fast in Ramadan and pray in Ramadan only, this is deception of Allah. How evil are those who do not know Allah except in Ramadan! Their fasting is not valid while they abandon prayer outside of Ramadan. In fact, they are disbelievers by this, committing major shirk (associating partners with Allah), even if they do not deny the obligation of prayer, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam) Narrated by the Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah with a sound chain from Buraydah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2616Hasan (Darussalam) , narrated by the Imam al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) with a sound chain from Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): narrated by the Imam Muslim in his Sahih from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). There are many hadiths in this meaning. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفرThe head of the matter is Islam, and its pillar is the Salat, and its hump is Jihad
رأس الأمر الإسلام وعموده الصلاة، وذروة سنامه الجهاد في سبيل اللهBetween a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.
