The Shaykh : Using what?

The questioner : Using incense for women in wedding halls during weddings; is this among the matters permissible in the Shari'ah? Knowing that it has become the custom of people in their weddings, and that a woman may go out and ride with the driver or with a man who is a stranger to her? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Yes, I say: Do not use this. Women should not use incense, except if they incense the place without the woman taking it and incensing her clothes. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever (woman) fumigates herself with perfume should not join us in the 'Isha' prayer. أيما امرأة أصابت بخوراً فلا تشهد معنا صلاة العشاء
Sahih Muslim 444
meaning: the entire prayer. But if they place the incense burners on a shelf, for example, in the place, or on multiple shelves, without the woman taking the incense burner and incensing herself, then there is nothing wrong with that. Yes.
