The Exemption of the Guard from the Friday Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2639 )
Q: The substance of the question is that the owner of a station located about two kilometers from the town asks whether it is permissible to appoint a guard for the station during the Friday prayer to protect it from fire and theft, and whether the Friday prayer is exempted for that guard so that he may pray the midday prayer. It is known that the station has previously caught fire and the shop was robbed. Also, the owner of the station lives in the station with his children, his mahrams, and the guard’s children and women.
A: If the matter is as described, it is permissible for the guard to pray the Friday prayer
as the midday prayer in order to perform the guarding of the aforementioned items and persons; due to the generality of the scriptural evidence indicating the exemption from the Friday prayer in such an excuse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
