Fatwa No. ( 776 )
Q: 1- What is the ruling on the prayer of tasbih, and what is its evidence?
2 - What is its form?

A: As for the answer to the first question: The principle in acts of worship is that they are based on divine legislation, so one cannot say that a certain act is a prescribed worship unless there is evidence that is suitable to be relied upon. We do not know of any sound evidence that can be relied upon to affirm its permissibility. There are hadiths mentioned in the book: (Al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib) and others, but they are not free from criticism. What is prescribed for the Muslim is to worship Allah with what He has prescribed in His Book, and with what is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), for every act of worship has two pillars: sincerity and following the Prophet. Allah has combined these two in several places in the Noble Qur'an; among them is His saying:
Yes [on the contrary], whoever submits his face in Islam to Allah while being a doer of good will have his reward with his Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.
[Al-Baqarah 2:112]
So turning one's face to Him is: sincerity, and excellence in worship is: following the Prophet. And among them is His saying:
And whoever submits his face to Allah while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handholdوَمَنْ يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَى
[Luqman 31:22]
As for the second answer: The discussion of it is based on its establishment by sound evidence, and it has been mentioned in the first answer: that we do not know of a sound evidence by which its permissibility is established. And looking at what has been reported in the hadiths that are not free from
criticism, the form has been reported differently. And whoever wants to look into it, he should refer to it in the book: (Al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
