The place where one got married: does one shorten the prayer there?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa number ( 7176 )
Q3: Some people say that in the town or place where one got married, one does not shorten the prayer, nor combine the Dhuhr with the Asr, or the Maghrib with
the Isha. Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A3: It is not the case that in every place where one got married, one does not shorten the prayer, nor combine the two prayers that share the same time. However, in any place where you have a wife who is settled there or residing there in a way that negates the ruling of travel, if you stay with her during your journey, you do not shorten the four-rak'ah prayer, nor combine the two prayers. As for if you are residing in the town where you got married in a residence that does not negate the status of a traveler, then you may shorten the prayer there; because it has not remained your homeland. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Khadijah in Makkah , then he traveled to al-Madinah as an emigrant, then he returned to Makkah for the Farewell Pilgrimage and shortened the prayer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
