Shortening the Prayer on a Pleasure Trip
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 3503 )
Q2: A group of people go out for a picnic in cold areas, and they say: “It is permissible for us to shorten and combine the prayers, and we are currently traveling,” and they pray Maghrib with 'Isha', and 'Isha' as two rak'ahs. Is that permissible for them, and what is permissible for them while they are in this state? Knowing that their travel is for a picnic.
A2: If the distance they traveled is the distance for shortening the prayer: it is permissible for them to shorten the four-rak'ah prayer, and to combine Maghrib and 'Isha' in the time of one of them, and to combine Zuhr and 'Asr as well in the time of one of them, whether their going out is for a picnic, for trade, or for jihad; because all of it is travel, and the Shari'ah did not specify one type of travel over another, but rather it linked the rulings of travel to the name of traveling in the land and journeying. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
