Aligning the rows of the praying congregation and aligning the shoulders and heels
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 4582 )
Q3: When we pray in congregation and I try to align my feet with the feet of the person in front of me, some of the older brothers, who are farmers, tell me: Do not spread your feet more than the width of a cat. Is this correct, or should the feet be aligned? If aligning the feet is correct, what is the Islamic ruling on one who refuses to align his feet and persists in the state that has been fixed in their minds since the beginning of their rural lives? What do you advise them? And how do I get out of this situation?
A3: The Sunnah is for the praying congregation to align their rows and to align their shoulders and heels, due to the many authentic hadiths regarding this. And Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: One of us would press his foot against the foot of his companion. The intention behind this is
to close the gaps and straighten the rows. It is recommended to advise one another to do so, without causing harm to one another. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
