And after: Trimming the nails is among the sunnahs of fitrah; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: الفطرة خمس: الختان، والاستحداد، وقص الشارب، وتقليم الأظفار ونتف الإبط has five characteristics: circumcision, shaving with a razor, clipping the moustache, paring the nails, and plucking out hairs under the armpit. Mishkat al-Masabih 4420 It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and it is established in another hadith that the sunnahs of fitrah are ten, among which is trimming the nails. And from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) he said: وقت لنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في قص الشارب، وقلم الظفر، ونتف الإبط، وحلق العانة: ألا نترك ذلك أكثر من أربعين يومًا The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set a limit for us in cutting the moustache, trimming the nails, plucking the armpit hair, and shaving the pubic hair: that we should not leave that for more than forty days , it was narrated by Ahmad and Muslim and al-Nasa'i and the wording is for Ahmad and al-Nasa'i, so whoever does not trim his nails is contrary to a sunnah of the sunnahs of fitrah. And the wisdom in that is cleanliness and purity from what may be under them of dirt, and elevating oneself from imitating the disbelievers who do that, and from imitating the animals that have claws and nails. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
