Fatwa number ( 1870 )
Q: They were praying one of the prayers in the house, and the telephone alarm started ringing, distracting them with the ringing for a long time. Is it permissible in such a case for the person praying to move forward or backward, pick up the telephone receiver, and say the takbir, or raise his voice in recitation to let the person on the phone know that he is praying, by analogy with opening the door for a visitor or raising one's voice to him?
A: If the person praying is in the state you described and the telephone starts ringing, it is permissible for him to pick up the receiver, even if he moves forward a little or backward, or moves to his right or left, on the condition that he remains facing the qiblah, and that he says: (Subhan Allah) to alert the person speaking on the phone; because it is established in the two SahihsMuwatta Malik 9:89 , and in a narration by Muslim : while he was leading the people in prayer in the mosque, and because Ahmad and others narrated from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: Mishkat al-Masabih 1005 , and what was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
