The questioner : He says: The Honorable Shaykh, in recent times, wearing hats has become widespread among children and older youth, so what is the ruling on wearing them?

The Shaykh : Hats that have a brim? Some people claim that they wear them to protect themselves from the sun's light and heat, but this claim is not true, it is not true in reality, because we have found people wearing them at night. Is there sun at night? No, there is no sun, but it is a fashion. Also, I advise the brothers who wear them: I advise them that relaxing the eye to this extent, to the point where it cannot withstand the sun's rays, harms it greatly. It is like a man who is accustomed to luxury; if you told him to run from here to the market, he would be greatly exhausted, but a man who is accustomed to walking and has struggled with walking does not care about it. So it is with all the powers of the body. If you pamper your eyes until they cannot see the sun's rays, know that this is harmful to you. So, from a medical perspective, it is harmful, except if a person has an eye condition or an illness that makes him suffer from the sun's light, then it may be said that there is nothing wrong with it, although it is sufficient for him to take what? Yes, medical glasses against the sun. So I see that as advice to our brothers and sons, they should not wear that. They have, praise be to Allah, clothing that protects the head from the sun's heat: the ghutrah and the taqiyah, and in them is good. Yes.
