Peace upon the one who is praying

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa number ( 2437 )
Q3: Is it permissible for a Muslim to greet another Muslim who is in prayer or in a state of dhikr and supplication?
A3: First: It is prescribed for a Muslim to initiate the greeting to his Muslim brother who is praying, but he does not return the greeting while in his prayer except by gesture, in order to preserve his prayer; for it is established from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said:
I said to Bilal: How did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) return the greeting to them when they were greeting him while he was in prayer? He said: He gestures with his hand.
, narrated by the five. It is also established from him from Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said:
I passed by Allah's Messenger (S) while he was performing Salat, so I said greeted him with Salam, and he returned it by making signals." He said: "I do not know except that he said: 'He indicated with his finger.'"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 367Sahih (Darussalam)
narrated by the five except Ibn Majah , and al-Tirmidhi said: Both hadiths are authentic in my view. It is also established from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said:
I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibit the two rak'ahs after 'Asr, then I saw him praying them when he prayed 'Asr. She said: He entered and there were women from Banu Harith of the Ansar with me, so he prayed them. I sent the girl to him and said: Stand by his side and say to him: Umm Salama says to you: O Messenger of Allah, I heard you prohibit these two rak'ahs, and I see you praying them. If he gestures with his hand, then step back. The girl did so, and he gestured with his hand, so she stepped back from him. When he finished, he said: O daughter of Abi Umayyah, you asked about the two rak'ahs after 'Asr. Indeed, some people from Banu Abd al-Qays came to me and occupied me from the two rak'ahs after Dhuhr, so these are them.
narrated by al-Bukhari
and Muslim. In these hadiths lies the prescription of greeting the one who is praying while he is in his prayer, and that he only returns the greeting by gesture; due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) approval of that and his return of the greeting by gesture only. Second: It is prescribed for a Muslim to initiate the greeting to one who is in a state of dhikr or supplication; for it is established from Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:
While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in the mosque and the people were with him, three men came. Two came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and one went away. When they stood before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), they greeted him. As for one of them, he found a space in the circle and sat in it. As for the other, he sat behind them. As for the third, he turned away and went. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, he said: Shall I inform you about the three men? As for one of them, he sought refuge in Allah, so Allah sheltered him. As for the other, he was shy, so Allah was shy of him. As for the other, he turned away, so Allah turned away from him.
, and what is in the two Sahihs of the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him),
That an Arab entered the mosque and prayed, but he did not complete his ruku' or his sujud. Then he came and greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned the greeting to him, then said: Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.
... the hadith.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
