Q3: The sitting of rest is performed only by the imam, while the followers stand up. Is this permissible or not?
A3: The sitting of rest is a recommended practice (sunnah) of the prayer for the imam, the follower, and the one praying alone. Following the imam is obligatory, and preceding him is forbidden. Therefore, it is obligatory for the follower, when his imam sits for the sitting of rest, to sit for it as well so that he does not precede his imam. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
