Fatwa No. ( 8712 ):
Q: Based on what is stated in the book [Stories of the Prophets] by Ibn Kathir , that there is a prophet among the prophets of Allah named: Hanzalah ibn Safwan , knowing that several books and publications have previously been issued that did not include the name of this prophet. We ask you to please grant us the correct answer, and also guide us to any author or book in which the name of this prophet is mentioned. We also ask you to clarify who is the black slave who will be the first to enter Paradise, and of course, al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir referred to him in the same book mentioned, [Stories of the Prophets], Part 1, page 239, in the chapter: The People of the Well, in the volume published by Dar Misr li al-Tiba'ah .
A: What is mentioned regarding Allah the Exalted sending a prophet named: Hanzalah ibn
Safwan
and that his people killed him - this was transmitted by Ibn Kathir from al-Suhayli in the book [al-Bidaya], and neither al-Suhayli nor Ibn Kathir provided a chain of narration for it nor attributed it to anyone, and such a report is not relied upon. And the hadith: (The first of the people to enter Paradise on the Day of Resurrection is the black slave) is not authentic, as far as we know, and Ibn Kathir mentioned it in [al-Bidaya], stating that it is mursal; because Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi did not meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
