The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in what he quoted from Hanzalah al-Katib, one of the scribes of revelation for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) meaning himself, and the meaning of "he became a hypocrite" is that he became one of the hypocrites. He said that out of his assumption (may Allah be pleased with him) that what he did was hypocrisy. So Abu Bakr said, "What is that?" He said (may Allah be pleased with him): "When we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he told us about the Fire and Paradise until it was as if we saw it with our own eyes, or as if we saw it with our own eyes, meaning: as if we saw Paradise and the Fire with our own eyes due to the strength of certainty, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed them of it, and what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed of is like what is witnessed, or perhaps even greater, because it is news from the most truthful of creation, prayers and peace be upon him, and the most knowledgeable of creation regarding Allah. But they meaning we relaxed with them and forgot what we were in the state of with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So Abu Bakr said about himself: meaning when he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he told them about the Fire and Paradise until it was as if they saw it with their own eyes, and they left him and mixed with their families, children, and possessions, they forgot much due to the intensity of certainty, [the angels] touch you as an honor for you and to firm you, because as the certainty of the servant increases, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) firms him and strengthens him, as He said: [Muhammad 47:17] meaning a time for the Lord (Mighty and Majestic) and a time with the family and children, and a time for the self, so that a person gives his self its rest and gives those with rights their rights. And this is from the justice and perfection of the Islamic Shari'ah, that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has a right, so He is given His right (Mighty and Majestic), and likewise the self has a right, so it is given its right, and the family has a right, so they are given their rights, and the visitors and guests have a right, so they are given their rights, until a person fulfills all the rights that are upon him in a state of ease, and worships Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in ease, because if a person burdens himself and tightens things on himself, he becomes bored and tired and wastes many rights. And this is as it is in worship and in the rights of the self, family, and guest, so it is also in knowledge, if a person seeks knowledge and sees boredom in himself in reviewing a certain book, let him move to another book, or if he sees himself leaning away from studying a specific discipline, let him move to studying another discipline, and so on, he rests his self and obtains much knowledge. But if he forces himself on something, this may result in boredom and tiredness, and he will be disgusted and turn away, except what Allah wills. For some people force themselves on reviewing, reading, and researching despite tiredness, then they take it upon themselves, and this becomes their habit and their constant practice, until if they lose this thing, their chest becomes narrow. And Allah gives His bounty to whom He wills, and Allah is the Owner of great bounty.
