The third question of Fatwa No. ( 5318 ):
Q3: Allah the Exalted says:[Al-A'raf 7:180] What is the right of the one who supplicates to Allah by His beautiful names? Does he seek nearness to Him through ten of His names, or more, or does he seek nearness through the name that is appropriate for the desired outcome to be attained?
A3: Supplicating to Allah by His beautiful names and seeking nearness to Him through them is prescribed; because of His saying, the Exalted:[Al-A'raf 7:180] , and because of what Imam
Ahmad narrated from the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . And the supplicant may seek nearness to Allah by any of His beautiful names by which He named Himself, or by which His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) named Him. If he chooses from them what is appropriate for his request, that is better, such as: O Rescuer, rescue me; and O Merciful, have mercy on me; O Lord, forgive me and have mercy on me, for You are the One who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

No one has ever been afflicted with worry or sadness and then said: O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree over me is just, and Your judgment over me is fair. I ask You by every name that is Yours, by which You have named Yourself, or by which You have taught one of Your creation, or by which You have revealed in Your Book, or by which You have kept exclusive in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the dispeller of my sadness, and the remover of my worry, but that Allah would remove his worry and sadness and replace it with relief. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn it? He said: Yes, it is befitting for whoever hears it to learn it.
