Seeking Nearness to Allah the Exalted Through His Names

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The evidence for seeking nearness through the names is the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)
I ask You by every name that is Yours, by which You have named Yourself, or which You have revealed in Your Book, or which You have taught any of Your creation, or which You have kept exclusive to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the great Qur'an the spring of my heart أسألك بكل اسم هو لك سميت به نفسك أو أنزلته في كتابك أو علمته أحدا من خلقك أو استأثرت به في علم الغيب عندك أن تجعل القرآن العظيم ربيع قلبي
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 18:73
to its end. What is this seeking nearness through? Through the names, whether in a general sense like this hadith, or in a specific sense, such as the supplication the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)
Faghfirli maghfiratan min indika war-hamni فاغفر لي مغفرة من عندك وارحمني
Sahih al-Bukhari 6326
Complete it
No doubt, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. إنك أنت الغفور الرحيم
Sahih al-Bukhari 7387, 7388
