Q: I would appreciate it if you could inform me of the religious ruling on producing artistic models of the two sacred sanctuaries, including the Ka'bah , for the purpose of selling them to pilgrims and other Muslims who wish to acquire them as mementos.
A: It is not permissible to produce artistic models of the two sacred sanctuaries;
because they may contain images of the people in the Makkah sanctuary, such as those circumambulating and praying, and of those in al-Masjid al-Nabawi , the reciters, and others. Also, the image of the green dome appearing alongside the image of al-Masjid al-Nabawi leads some people to believe in the domes and their inhabitants, which leads to major shirk (associating partners with Allah), and to other harms from which may Allah protect us. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
