The first question of Fatwa No. ( 7994 ):
Q1: He, the Exalted and Majestic, says in His Noble Book:[As-Sajdah 32:4] in Surat al-Sajdah. Many verses like this one have come in the Qur'an. Then He, Blessed and Exalted is He, mentioned another verse, saying: [Fussilat 41:9-12] in Surat Fussilat. What is the relationship between the first and second verses regarding the creation of the heavens and the earth in six days and eight days?
A1: There are not eight days in the verses mentioned in Surat Fussilat; rather, what is in them is six days. Reflect on that, and the matter will become clear to you, if Allah wills,
and refer to [Tafsir Ibn Kathir ] on this topic, and the difficulty will be removed from you, by the permission of Allah. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Q1: He, the Exalted and Majestic, says in His Noble Book:
It is Allah who created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them in six days
(9) Say, "Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds." (10) And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures'] sustenance in four days without distinction - for [the information] of those who ask. (11) Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, "Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion." They said, "We have come willingly." (12) And He completed them as seven heavens within two days and inspired in each heaven its command. And We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps and as protection. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
A1: There are not eight days in the verses mentioned in Surat Fussilat; rather, what is in them is six days.
