Ruling on the inability to pronounce the letter ḍād
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 511 ):
Q: What is the ruling on one who is unable to pronounce the letter ḍād from its point of articulation, and people have differed on this, with some saying: the one who is unable must pronounce it as ḍā', and others saying: he must pronounce it as dāl, so clarify for us the truth in this matter?
A: It is obligatory for one who does not master pronouncing the ḍād from its point of articulation to exert his full capacity and make every effort to train his tongue to pronounce the ḍād from its point of articulation and to pronounce it correctly. If he is still unable to pronounce it correctly after exerting his effort, he is excused, and he has only to pronounce it as easily as he can. He is not required to pronounce it specifically as ḍā' or dāl; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:286] , and His saying: [Al-Hajj 22:78] . And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
