The Ruling on Affection for Disbelievers and Mixing with Them
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 10523 ):
Q: Since the nature of the work requires interaction with employees, both Muslim and non-Muslim, and we sometimes find disbelievers and Muslims in the same room, this necessitates eating together, drinking together, and mixing. We sense that some consider this ordinary and do not pay attention to it, while we perceive that the intention of others in maintaining good companionship and displaying good morals is to attract non-Muslims to Islam. I hope you will refer this to His Eminence Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz so that we may know the ruling on this. May Allah guide everyone to serve Islam and Muslims.
A: It is not permissible to have affection for disbelievers, nor to mix with them in a way that leads to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). However, there is nothing wrong with eating with them, mixing with them, and being kind to them in a way that encourages them to accept Islam, provided there is safety from fitnah and no affection. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
