The Limits of Loyalty

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 6901 ):

Q5: What are the limits of loyalty (al-wala') that cause a person to commit disbelief (kufr) and exit the religion, given that we hear that one who eats with a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) or sits with him, or uses his light, or even sharpens a pen for them or provides them with an inkwell, is a mushrik? We often deal with the Jews and the Christians as a result of coexistence and citizenship in the same place. What are the limits of loyalty that cause one to exit the religion? What are the books that explain this in detail? Is loyalty one of the conditions of "There is no god but Allah"?
A5: The loyalty to disbelievers (kuffar) that causes the one who shows it to commit disbelief is: loving them, and supporting them against the Muslims. It is not merely dealing with them with justice, nor mixing with them for the purpose of calling them to Islam, nor attending their gatherings or traveling to them for the purpose of conveying the message and spreading Islam. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
