Error in Ijtihad

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q10: Some of the religiously observant young people today say that all, or the majority, of those who fall into shirk (associating partners with Allah) in the Islamic world today are not mushriks (those who associate partners with Allah);
because either he is a distinguished scholar whose ijtihad (independent legal reasoning) led him to the permissibility of such things as istighathah (calling for aid) to other than Allah; as was done by al-Suyuti , al-Nabihani , and others, and this person has two rewards: one if he is correct, and one if he is wrong; or he is a layman who follows a scholar, and this is the best he can do.

A10: The excused person who makes a mistake is the one who errs in theoretical issues of ijtihad (independent legal reasoning), not the one who errs in what is established by an explicit text, nor in what is known from the religion by necessity. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
