Assisting apostates in changing their names

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

Fatwa number ( 7712 ):

Q: I received a question from one of the employees in the Personal Identity Cards Department, and its content is: that a person who newly enters Islam is required to change
his name, especially if it is contrary to Islam. It happens that some of them apostatize, and then they are required to revert to their original names from when they were disbelievers; because many rulings depend on this, including Islamic ones, and those imposed by the religions of disbelief; such as inheritance, marriage, and personal status. Since the person seeking the fatwa works in the Civil Status Department, the Cards Section, is he sinful if he changes those names? And is his work considered support for them in their apostasy? Also, it happens that he receives orders from his superiors to do so, so what is the ruling in all of this?

A: If you know that the person seeking the change is moving from Islam to disbelief, you must not assist him in that in any type of assistance, even if your superior orders you to do so; because of the saying of Allah (Mighty and Majestic):
And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلاَ تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
And because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)
cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses, and he said: They are all equal.لعن آكل الربا، وموكله، وكاتبه، وشاهديه، وقال: هم سواء
Sahih Muslim 1598
narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, so if the one who assists in the acts of usury is cursed, how much more so the one who assists in establishing disbelief and facilitating the acts of apostates?! And because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.إنما الطاعة في المعروف
Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
,
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”لا طاعة للمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
