Ruling on changing names after Hajj
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The ninth question of Fatwa No. ( 3323 ):
Q9: What is the ruling on changing names, as is the case with most Indonesian pilgrims, who change their names in Makkah al-Mukarramah or in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah ? Is it a recommended practice or not?
Vol. 9: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to change bad names to good ones. So, if the people of Indonesia change their names for that reason, and not because they have finished their Hajj or visit to the Prophet's Mosque to pray in it, then it is permissible,
But if they do it because they are in Makkah or al-Madinah , or because they have finished their Hajj, for example, then it is a religious innovation and not a recommended practice. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
