The ruling on the wedding feast upon completing the recitation of the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 4029 ):

Q4: Is it permissible to hold a walimah (wedding feast) on the occasion of completing the recitation of the Qur'an?
Vol. 4: The wedding feast is prescribed for marriage when the husband enters with his wife; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf when he informed him that he had consummated the marriage with his wife:
Hold a feast, even if it is only with a sheepأولم ولو بشاة
, and based on his action (peace and blessings be upon him). As for the wedding feast or celebration on the occasion of completing the recitation of the Qur'an, it is not known from him (peace and blessings be upon him) nor from any of the Rightly Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them). Had they done it, it would have been transmitted to us like the other rulings of the Shari'ah. Therefore, the wedding feast or celebration for the sake of completing the recitation of the Qur'an is an invented religious innovation. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
, and he said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
