The seventh question of Fatwa No. ( 3230 ):
Q7: We ask you to explain to us clearly what bid'ah (religious innovation) is, and the types of bid'ah ?
A7: Bid'ah (religious innovation) is: an act of worship that Allah has not prescribed, such as celebrating the Mawlid, celebrating the Night of Isra and Mi'raj, and raising the voice in the salutation upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) by the mu'adhdhin after the end of the adhan, and the like of that. A group of scholars have authored books explaining bid'ah and its types; we direct you to some of them below. 1 - The book [Al-Sunan wa al-Mubtada'at] by the Shaykh Muhammad Ahmad Abd al-Salam al-Hawamidi .
2 - The book [Al-Ibtida' fi Mudharat al-Ibtida'] by the Shaykh Ali Mahfuz . Both are from the scholars of Egypt , and long before them is the book [Al-Bida' wa al-Nahy 'Anha] by the Imam Muhammad ibn Wadha' , and the book [Al-I'tisam] by al-Shatibi . And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
