Fatwa number ( 3934 ):
The questioner: I am a student of knowledge and faith that Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) are pleased with. What are your sound guidelines for me regarding reading Islamic books that build the Muslim on a sound foundation, especially in this time when doubts and falsehoods have multiplied in the name of religion? Second: What is the ruling in Islam, according to your knowledge, regarding the Sufi orders in general and the Naqshbandi order in particular?
A: First: Focus on the Book of Allah and increase in its recitation and reflection; for it is the source of all good. Then, [the Sunnah] of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Read on tawhid (the oneness of Allah): [Sharh al-'Aqidah al-Tahawiyyah], the book [Tathir al-'I'tiqad] by al-San'ani , the book [al-Tawhid] by Ibn Khuzaymah, the book [Mukhtasar al-Sawa'iq al-Mursalah] by al-Mawsili , the book [Kashf al-Shubuhat], and [Kitab al-Tawhid] by Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab , and [al-'Aqidah al-Wasitiyyah] with its commentaries by Ibn Taymiyyah, and his books [al-Hamawiyyah] and [al-Tamimiyyah]. Read on fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) in the book [al-Muhadhdhab] by Abu Ishaq al-Shirazi ,
And the book [Zad al-Ma'ad] by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, and the book [I'lam al-Muwaqqi'in] by him as well, and [Umdah al-Fiqh] by al-Muqaffi Ibn Qudamah. Read from the books of hadith in [Sahih al-Bukhari ] and [Sahih Muslim ] and [Riyad al-Salihin] and [Muntakha al-Akhbar] and [Bulugh al-Maram]. Read from the books of admonition the book [al-Da' wa al-Dawa'] by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, which is also called: [al-Jawab al-Kafi li Man Sala 'an al-Dawa' al-Shafi], and the book: [al-Adab al-Shar'iyyah] by Ibn Muflih, and [al-Wabil al-Sayb] by Ibn al-Qayyim. Second: Innovations are numerous among the groups of the Sufi orders in general, such as collective dhikr in rows or circles with one voice, and their dhikr of Allah with the singular name with one voice, such as: Allah, Allah, Hayy, Hayy, Qayyum, Qayyum... and their dhikr with the third-person pronoun, such as: Huwa, Huwa... and their dhikr with the word Ah, and in their anthems accompanying the dhikr there is much evil, such as: calling for aid from other than Allah and seeking support from the dead, such as: al-Badawi , al-Shadhili , al-Jilani , and others, and in their books there are many innovations and widespread evil, and it is specific to the Naqshbandi order their dhikr of Allah with the Name of Majesty in the daily recitation with heart movements with a breath resembling the movement of the tongue in speech without moving the tongue, and the presence of the disciple's shaykh and his daily recitation with the belief in his intercession in his salvation on the Day of Resurrection, and all these matters are from the denounced innovations; because none of those dhikrs has been established
from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in what was revealed to him of the Book and the Sunnah, and it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Muslim 1718b, and he said: Sahih Muslim 1718a. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
