The second question of Fatwa No. ( 6724 ):
Q2: Is it permissible to place a rag, a piece of leather, or something similar on the belly of a boy or a girl who is of nursing age and also on adults? We are in the south, and we place a rag or leather on the belly of a girl or a small boy, and also on adults. So please inform us about that?
A2: If placing this rag or leather is intended to achieve what is intended by amulets, namely bringing benefit or warding off harm, then this is forbidden, and it may even be shirk (associating partners with Allah). But if it is for a valid purpose, such as holding the child’s navel to prevent it from rising or tightening the back, then there is nothing wrong with that. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
