Benefits of the Hadith: (None of you should beat his wife as he beats a slave)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The following benefits are derived from this hadith:
First: A man has the right to beat his wife. The evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not prohibit beating a wife absolutely; rather, he prohibited a specific type of beating, namely beating a slave. The Book and the Sunnah indicate this, meaning they indicate that a man has the right to strike his wife. Allah the Exalted said:
But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them
[An-Nisa 4:34]
.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in his sermon on the Day of 'Arafah:
And you have rights over them that they do not make their beds sit with anyone you dislike. If they do that, then strike them with a non-severe beating.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:2091
: So he permitted you to strike them. Also, the meaning necessitates this, for the woman is deficient in intellect and deficient in religion. If she is not struck when necessary, she will not be corrected. Therefore, striking is necessary if she does not become correct except through it. In this is an indication that it is not wise to prevent a teacher from striking students when the need arises, especially young children. A young child, no matter how much you advise him, will not benefit as required. If we say "do not strike him," it means we have opened the door for him to ride over our heads and not care. The Shari'ah and reason indicate that if striking is the cause of correction and straightening, there is no harm in it.
But what is prohibited is severe beating that causes pain, or is wounding, or beating that is not appropriate to the situation, such as beating a woman as one beats a slave. Yes.
And among the benefits of this hadith: A man has authority in disciplining his wife, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted him to beat her, but not as one beats a slave.
And among its benefits as well: He has authority in beating his slave.
And among the benefits of the hadith: Considering wisdom in actions, whether in establishing or abolishing them. The entire Shari'ah is built upon wisdom. For this reason, you will find that Allah (Mighty and Majestic), when He mentions some rulings, concludes them with wisdom:
Your parents or your children - you know not which of them are nearest to you in benefit. [These shares are] an obligation [imposed] by Allah. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
[An-Nisa 4:11]
. And regarding the categories of zakah, He said:
an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
[At-Tawbah 9:60]
. And regarding the ruling on the emigrant women and what is related to that, He said:
That is the judgement of Allah; He judges between you. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
[Al-Mumtahanah 60:10]
.
So the entire Shari'ah is built upon wisdom, which is: placing things in their proper places.
