Advice for Strengthening Faith and Knowledge
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 4323 ):
Q: First: I begin my question by asking for your advice so that I may benefit from you, and the saying here is (knowledge comes from the mouths of men). For example, I want my faith to be strengthened. Second: I want to learn, but the books in Algeria are neglected except
for some of the brothers, may Allah reward them with good, who have learned. Third: I work in construction, and the people in the workshop have no creed, and their speech is trivial; their speech is nothing but obscenity. Fourth: I walk with a brother whose creed is defective, and his speech is nothing but about our believing, righteous brothers, and I am ruined by him. I hope you will give me a cure for this ailment?
A: First: We advise you to read the Qur'an frequently, to listen to its recitation often, and to reflect on the meanings of what you read and hear to the best of your ability. If you find understanding something difficult, ask the scholars in your country about it, or correspond with other scholars of the Sunnah. We also advise you to increase your remembrance of Allah with the dhikr mentioned in the authentic hadiths, such as: "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah), and: "Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar" (Glory be to Allah, Praise be to Allah, There is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest), and the like. For this, refer to the book [Al-Kalim al-Tayyib] (The Good Word) by Ibn Taymiyyah , the book [Al-Wabil al-Sayb] (The Abundant Rain) by Ibn al-Qayyim , the book [Riyad al-Salihin] (The Gardens of the Righteous), and the book [Al-Adhkar al-Nawawiyyah] (The Nawawi's Adhkar) by al-Nawawi , and similar works. For the remembrance of Allah increases faith and brings tranquility to the hearts. Allah the Exalted said:[Ar-Ra'd 13:28], and maintain the prayer, fasting, and the other pillars of Islam, with hope in the mercy of Allah and reliance upon Him
in all your affairs. He the Exalted said:[Al-Anfal 8:2-4]. Second: Islamic books are available in abundance in every Islamic country, in public government libraries and for sale in commercial private libraries; whoever seeks them will find them. We advise you to consult the scholars of Islamic law in your area to determine which books are suitable for you to read in the government libraries, borrow for reading, or purchase from commercial libraries, and to ask the scholars about what is difficult for you. We have no objection to answering your questions regarding matters of the pure Shari'ah. We ask Allah for steadfastness upon the truth, and Allah is the Helper. Third and Fourth: You must keep the company of the good and sit with the righteous so that you may benefit from them in knowledge and character, and so that they may be a support for you in obedience. Beware of bad companions and sitting with the wicked, lest they influence your morals, or dampen your enthusiasm and weaken your resolve in performing the rituals of your religion and fulfilling your duties to your family, or harm your reputation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised his Ummah to keep the company of the good and warned them against keeping the company of the wicked, and he gave a noble example
in this regard, saying: narrated by al-Bukhari from Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him). And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured."
أَلا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُin all your affairs. He the Exalted said:
(2) The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely - (3) The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend. (4) Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.
The example of the good companion and the bad companion is like the owner of musk and the blacksmith. You will not be deprived by the owner of musk of either buying from him, or receiving a gift from him, or smelling a pleasant scent. But the blacksmith will burn your clothes, or you will smell a foul odor.
