Defining the Term Wahhabi

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The second question of Fatwa No. ( 9450 ):

Q2: What is Wahhabism?
A2: Wahhabism: is a term used by the opponents of the Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab (may Allah have mercy on him) to describe his call to purify the oneness of Allah (tawhid) from acts of shirk and to reject all paths except the path of Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Their intention in doing so is to turn people away from his call and deter them from what he called them to. However, this did not harm it; rather, it increased its spread across the horizons and the desire for it among those whom Allah guided to seek further knowledge about the nature of the call, its objectives, and the evidence from the Book and the authentic Sunnah upon which it relies. Consequently, they clung to it more firmly,
and they held fast to it and began calling people to it, and praise be to Allah. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
