If the follower joins the imam in the second rak'ah of the Maghrib prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : My Shaykh, regarding tawarruk in prayer, sometimes or most of the time, if we are, for example, late for the Maghrib or Isha prayer by one rak'ah, and the imam sits for the second tashahhud, and for the imam it is, for example, the third rak'ah of Maghrib, but for you it is the second rak'ah, yet you perform tawarruk in this case, is this in the category of
The Imam is to be followed إنما جُعِلَ الإمام لِيُؤتَمَّ به
Sahih al-Bukhari 1236
or is there another matter?

The Shaykh : No, it is in this category first, and in the category that my prayer now is my prayer with the imam at the end of the prayer.

The questioner : As for you.

The Shaykh : We have more than that, meaning the issue has a second aspect: if this imam does not perform tawarruk, what do we do? We distinguish and say: if he does not perform tawarruk following the opinion of his imam, we do not follow him; and if he does not perform tawarruk due to neglecting the Sunnah, we perform the Sunnah and do not agree with him. If the situation you presented is the case, and it is supposed that this imam actually performs tawarruk, whether he does or not, both are the same for us. We must do the action he is doing, which is tawarruk at the end of the prayer. There is wisdom in this, because when the one who joins late enters and finds the followers in tawarruk, it occurs to him that this is the end of the prayer and the final tashahhud, so he hastens to catch up with the imam before he exits the prayer with the taslim.
In summary: we have nothing but
The Imam is to be followed إنما جُعِلَ الإمام لِيُؤتَمَّ به
Sahih al-Bukhari 1236
.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
