The Shaykh : As for the fifth hadith: it is left blank, and perhaps many of you know from our terminology that this means we were unable to finalize the ruling on this hadith, and therefore we did not mark it as authentic or weak. It is not objectionable to draw attention to one of the reasons that prevents us from being able to assign a grade to some hadiths, such as authenticity.
He says here regarding the hadith: It was narrated by Ibn Majah with a good chain and by al-Bayhaqi with an authentic chain. This is a discrepancy between the chain of Ibn Majah and the chain of al-Bayhaqi. We naturally examined the chain of Ibn Majah because Sunan Ibn Majah is available and accessible, and we found it to be weak, not reaching the level of good. However, we did not examine the chain of al-Bayhaqi, which he graded as authentic, because it is in al-Bayhaqi’s well-known book, *Shu'ab al-Iman*. To date, only the first part of this book has been printed, and it does not contain what relates to the life and livelihood of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Although we have a photographed copy of a manuscript in Egypt, we still did not find the hadith in that section. Therefore, we left the hadith blank until Allah the Exalted makes it easy for us to examine al-Bayhaqi’s chain. Then, we will either authenticate it with the author, grade it as good, or at least use it to strengthen the chain of Ibn Majah, which the author graded as good.
