Explanation of the hadith of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him): “O Messenger of Allah, how can there be well-being after this verse…”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the meaning of the previous hadith is the following hadith, with which we conclude the lesson, and it is His saying:
It was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man recited this verse:
Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed for it
[An-Nisa 4:123]
and he said: “We are indeed recompensed for everything we do; we are then ruined.” That reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and he said: “Yes, one is recompensed for it in this world by a calamity in his body that causes him pain.”
This is in the meaning of the previous hadith.
I must also recite the following hadith because it is in the meaning of the one before it, so that we do not repeat the topic to you, and it is:
His saying: It was narrated from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: يا رسول الله كيف الصلاح بعد هذه الآية : ليس بآمانيكم ولا أماني أهل الكتاب من يعمل سوءاً يجز به الآية ، وكل شيء عملناه جزينا به ؟ فقال عليه الصلاة والسلام : غفر الله لك يا أبا بكر ألست؟ تمرض ألست تحزن ؟ ألست يصيبك اللأواء أي الشدائد قال : قلت بلى ، قال : هو ما تجزون به O Messenger of Allah, how can there be well-being after this verse: “It is not that We have been lenient with you or with the People of the Book; whoever does evil will be recompensed for it” [the verse], and we are recompensed for everything we do? He said, may the prayers and peace be upon him: “May Allah forgive you, O Abu Bakr. Do you not get sick? Do you not get sad? Do you not experience hardship, meaning difficulties?” He said: I said, “Yes.” He said: “That is what you are recompensed for.”.
So this hadith clarifies to us the meaning of the verse in the following way:
Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed for it
[An-Nisa 4:123]
meaning in this world. But you must know that this ruling is specific to the believer. As for the open sinner who is immersed in disobedience and sins, who is always strong, robust, and physically fit, who always takes care of himself and his health in a worldly material way and does not think about the Hereafter at all, this person is not covered by such a noble Qur’anic text. Therefore, it came in some authentic hadiths:
A man entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a gathering where I think the fever was mentioned. That man asked, “What is this fever?” He said to him, may the peace be upon him: “Have you not been afflicted by it?” He said, “No.” He said, may the peace be upon him: “Whoever wants to look at a man from the people of the Fire, let him look at this man.”
This indicates to you the importance of what a person is afflicted with, not only from illnesses, but anything that causes him pain, as the hadith of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) explained this matter to us with complete clarity. So the believer, everything he commits of sins in this world, he is recompensed for it by what he is afflicted with of illnesses and calamities, and anything that saddens him. So praise be to Allah who made us Muslims, and we hope that He will make us among the patient if He afflicts us with something. We ask Allah for well-being and safety, as you have learned from our lessons in this book that the best thing a person asks his Lord for is well-being. But the matter is not as we wish; we may be afflicted, and if we are afflicted, that is better for us. This is the whole topic, revolving around this issue exactly: that if a Muslim is struck by an illness or any calamity, he must praise Allah and be content, and he should remember the saying of the Messenger (peace be upon him) at the end:
The affair of the believer is amazing in its entirety. If good befalls him, he is grateful, and it is better for him. And if bad befalls him, he is patient, and it is better for him. The affair of the believer is all good, and that is only for the believer.
.
And with this amount is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
