Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When this verse was revealed, its beginning is [An-Nisa 4:123], meaning that everything a Muslim commits in this life of sins, faults, and disobedience, he must be recompensed for it. It is like His saying, the Exalted: [Az-Zalzalah 99:8].

من يعمل سوءاً يجز بهBe moderate and stand firm in trouble that falls to the lot of a Muslim (as that) is an expiation for him; even stumbling on the path or the pricking of a thorn (are an expiation for him).
