The questioner : He says:The questioner : Praise be to Allah, most of our celebrations, praise be to Allah, contain no evil, except perhaps when the men enter the dining hall, which is close to the women’s hall, and we sometimes hear sounds we call “taqataqat”. Is this evil? And are we required to leave after we have attended the meal, when our souls are longing for this delicious food? I say: Are we required to leave after the women refuse to lower their voices? And if I know that there is evil among the women at this wedding, should I not attend, especially since I do not see it? It is confined to the women’s hall, and the men’s hall is free of evil? Please give us a ruling, and may Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) say: “If one is invited to a wedding feast and there is evil in it that he is unable to change, and he does not attend it, nor see it, nor hear it, then he has a choice: if he wishes, he may attend, and if he wishes, he may not attend.”
As for what concerns the women’s halls that are close to the men’s location, the advice is that the walls adjacent to the men’s seating should be sealed. There should be nothing in them through which sound can pass, and the volume should be kept to a level where only the women in the hall can hear it, and it should be kept low. If people adopt this practice, the women will be separate and the hall will be sealed, so that the women’s voices do not reach the men. And the voices will be confined to the hall. In that case, there is nothing wrong with it, and he may attend, and there is no blame on him. Yes.
