What is the ruling on women hurrying in tawaf and in sa'y?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Here is a question that says: Please answer us regarding the issue of women hurrying in tawaf and sa'y?
Answer: There is near consensus that women do not hurry, neither in tawaf nor in sa'y, except that some of the Shafi'i scholars adopted the following detail, which is reasonable and acceptable to me. He says: If a woman hurries in a place free of men, at night where no one sees her, then it is prescribed for her to hurry in sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah, but not in tawaf. And I said that this is acceptable from my perspective, because you all know that the origin of hurrying in sa'y is the hurrying of the wife of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when she lost him, so she would run in the valley searching for him. So hurrying began from here, it began from the woman, the wife of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him). So it is not far-fetched that, since the origin is from the woman, this hurrying is prescribed for the woman herself. But the condition that the Shafi'i scholars restricted it with is an acceptable condition that aligns with the principles and rules of the Shari'ah, which is that it is obligatory for the woman to observe hijab, and it is obligatory for her to observe covering and modesty. So if she runs like this, as men run, and in the sight of men, that is not befitting for her. Therefore, this detail that the Shafi'is brought is, theoretically, the stronger position. But it appears that, practically, it is rarely possible to apply it, because it is very rare for the sa'y area to be free of men and filled with women.
