The questioner : He says:The questioner : What is your esteemed opinion regarding what is done—or it appears to be a female questioner—she says: What is your esteemed opinion regarding what some girls do with one another, or some boys with one another, in the form of massage. Which is: a person lies on his stomach, for example, and the other massages his back, sides, neck, shoulders, legs, and perhaps his thighs. Sometimes this is done through clothing, and sometimes the massage involves direct contact with the skin. The masseur may also apply oil to use for the massage.

The Shaykh : ... .

The questioner : It appears from this massage that they call it.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Especially since this phenomenon is common in the dormitories of colleges and universities for both genders. Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : ... As for if a husband does this with his wife, or a wife with her husband, there is nothing wrong with it, because no matter what, it is permissible, even if his desire is aroused in this state, let him satisfy his desire, because he is with his wife. As for if it is with someone other than them, there is fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). If a young man did this with another young man, would he not fear that his desire would be aroused? Yes. And if a woman did it with a woman, there is fear, because a woman desires just as a man desires. So I do not see this as permissible except between a husband and his wife. Likewise, if we suppose that an old man has daughters and asks them to massage his back, there is nothing wrong with it, because desire is very far away in this case. And the man is old and needs it. So with his need and the distance of desire, we say: there is nothing wrong with it, if Allah wills.
