The mosque built on the Dome of the Rock: what is its origin and what is the ruling on praying in it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : So, the mosque built on it, the Mosque of the Dome of the Rock?

The Shaykh : The Mosque of Dharar.

The questioner : The Mosque of Dharar.

The Shaykh : And no? Do people not intend to pray in this mosque, prostrate, and leave...

The questioner : Yes, they forgot it, they forgot it, they forgot al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Shaykh : That is it.

The questioner : This is what has become, and now in the magazines...

The Shaykh : We have narrated this, may Allah reward you, this is our statement: that this Rock has become a symbol of sanctification, and it has absolutely no basis in the Shari'ah. So when we establish it in the hearts of people, it means we are supporting the common idea in the minds of the masses.

The questioner : By Allah, I know it is a Jewish idea, O our Shaykh. Why? So that they can demolish al-Aqsa and the Rock. Here it is, it has not been harmed and it has not been touched by any evil.

The Shaykh : Yes, they convince people, meaning they use it to convince them.

The questioner : Yes, indeed

The Shaykh : So I noticed that this Rock has no value in Islam. Have you not heard what we said to your brother just now, that there is a mosque at the Rock, under the Rock, which people visit to pray in? 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), on one of his journeys to Hajj during his caliphate, stopped at a lodging and saw people heading toward a certain direction. He asked those around him, "Where are these people heading?" They said, "There is a prayer place where the Messenger of Allah prayed, and they are going to pray there." He said, "Where are these people going?" They said, "A prayer place for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "O people, if prayer catches up with you in any of these mosques in which the Messenger prayed, then pray. And if not, do not do so. For those before you were destroyed only by their following the traces of their prophets."
So now, if there were a trace, as they claim, that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended to the Mi'raj from this Rock, it would not be permissible to make it a mosque. Now the Rock has become the Mosque of Dharar, intended for what? Praying in it instead of al-Aqsa Mosque, which has a special virtue, as is well known.
So we, the witnesses here, look at the faults of others and forget our own faults. When we adorn the fronts of our councils with such a Rock as a symbol for the Palestinians, this is not permissible, because in this case you are supporting the superstition associated with this image. Therefore, this must also be removed, and this is a reminder, and a reminder benefits the believers.
