The importance of offering the greeting of peace upon every entry and exit, and the response to those who find it objectionable.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The reason may be that you did not generalize the greeting, or perhaps you did not offer the greeting at all, not even to your companion who is right next to you.
The student : ... .

The Shaykh : This is between you and him; I have not mentioned that before, but I say that perhaps what leads you to this is that you do not remember, or you do not recall, or you recall but forget, or so on, along with the other possibilities; I mean his saying (peace be upon him):
When one of you enters the assembly, let him greet.
.
The student: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. He says in our area: "She came on her feet."
When one of you enters the gathering, let him offer the greeting of peace, and when he leaves, let him offer the greeting of peace; the first is not more deserving than the second.
; therefore, Muslims must maintain Islamic etiquette, by which they are distinguished from other nations. It is strange that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made the paths of obedience easy for Muslims, and the paths that lead them to a single way; that is what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said about it in the Noble Qur'an:
And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way
[Al-An'am 6:153]
. I say: Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made the paths of good easy, which take the Muslim to the straight path, and this is very important; because the Muslim, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the well-known hadith:
Every son of Adam commits sin, and the best of those who commit sin are those who repent.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4251Hasan (Darussalam)
, and he said in the hadith:
if you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them.
Sahih Muslim 2749
, but the Muslim is built upon error; therefore, let no one understand from this second hadith that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) = -- and upon you be peace -- = encourages sin; no, he explains from the nature of man that he is fallible, but he must make up for the errors that occur from him by seeking forgiveness. So from this category, the Wise Lawgiver, as I said earlier, has made the paths easy to increase good deeds; why? Because as long as it is in the nature of man to fall into evil deeds, He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.
[Hud 11:114]
. So if a person is evil in his actions, and his evil deeds are many and very many, and his good deeds are few; then his destination will be the Fire; because when Allah (Mighty and Majestic) sets up the balance of justice, whoever’s scale of good deeds outweighs enters Paradise, and whoever’s scale of evil deeds outweighs enters the Fire. So the Muslim must increase his good deeds. How? Look, remaining on the going up and coming down, like a saw on the rising and falling, eating and so on. The Muslim: peace be upon you, sits a little, gets up, peace be upon you, and so on during the day. Imagine how many entries and exits, whether he is a householder or a housewife, or an employee, or a shop owner, or so on. He must exit and enter, and so on. He must meet a Muslim who greets him, whether he exits or enters. The result at the end of the day will be thousands of good deeds recorded for him, as they say today, automatically, and he does not know or feel why? Because he is submissive to the Shari'ah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And in this occasion, the well-known hadith in the Sunan came:
A man entered upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "Peace be upon you," and he (peace be upon him) said, "Ten."
. Pay attention, the Companions...
A second man entered, "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah," twenty. A third man entered: "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings," thirty. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so entered, I said ten, and so-and-so twenty, and so-and-so thirty." The first said: "Peace be upon you," ten good deeds were written for him. The second added to him: "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah," twenty good deeds were written for him. The third said: "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings," thirty good deeds.
... The person remains on the going up, and people on the coming down and the going up, peace be upon you and peace be upon you. Whoever does not know the Sunnah finds it objectionable, but the strangeness is that in a place, from ancient times to today, misguidance is still walking, and it is Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, you do not understand in the end except ah, ah, ah, there is no word...
The student : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, what do they call it? This is dhikr. I was saying that this dhikr, Allah, Allah, is not considered objectionable by many people, but if one surprises people, a little while later peace be upon you, a little while later peace be upon you... Where did you get this language from? This is the Sunnah. This is considered objectionable. What is the cause of this objection and lack of...? Customs and traditions. People have become accustomed to innovation and have approved of it, and they have ignored the Sunnah and considered it an innovation. Therefore, we should be from the people of the Sunnah in speech and action. And with this, we end the word related to that entry, and may it not be repeated except with this explanation.
