The obligation of the Muslim to know the categories of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and their opposites.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It is obligatory for every Muslim to know that tawhid (the oneness of Allah) has three categories, and that shirk (associating partners with Allah) has three corresponding categories: tawhid al-rububiyyah (oneness of lordship), tawhid al-uluhiyyah (oneness of worship), and tawhid al-asma' wa al-sifat (oneness of the names and attributes). As for tawhid al-asma' wa al-sifat, as He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [Ash-Shuraa 42:11], it is obligatory for the Muslim to describe his Lord with what He has described Himself with. However, He described Himself first by negation (tanzih), and then by affirmation (ithbat). He said: [Ash-Shuraa 42:11], then He affirmed, saying: [Ash-Shuraa 42:11]. It is not permissible for us to liken Him to creation, because He is free from any resemblance to created things. It is not permissible for us to deny any of His attributes on the claim that this attribute involves likening Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to created things. Rather, we follow the Book in both negation and affirmation.
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُThere is nothing like unto Him
لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌand He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
