Warning against women imitating men in matters that are specific to men in knowledge.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this time, as we all see, men and women alike: men imitate women, and women imitate men. Every one of those who imitate the opposite sex is under the curse of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). I do not say this from myself, but rather I am conveying it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as you have heard. Therefore, women, just as men, must distance themselves from imitating the opposite sex. For example, regarding the knowledge that some Muslim, believing, and chaste women are trying to acquire—and I am not speaking about others—a young man came to me today to consult me at the Zahiriyyah Library. He said, "I proposed to a girl, and she is uncovered." He said, "I know the word 'uncovered' is elastic. Does 'uncovered' mean her face, or her hair, or more than that?" I said, "What do you mean by 'uncovered'?" He said, "This uncovering: she does not cover her hair, her neck, or anything else." I said to him, "May Allah preserve you, this is the one you proposed to?" He said to me, "What am I supposed to do, Professor? I am not finding anyone, and they are rejecting me. He... that he is a Salafi." I said to him, "It will appear that you have conditions." He said, "Yes, of course." I said to him, "What are your conditions?" He said, "I want her to be cultured, and here is the crux of the matter: I want her to be cultured." I said to him, "Why?" He said, "So that she can be a da'iyah (female caller to Islam)." I said to him, "My brother, are you a da'i (male caller to Islam) now? As a man, I know that his knowledge of Islam is superficial, but he is truly zealous, like many young men and women." I said to him, "Are you a da'i?" He said, "No, by Allah, but we will try." I said to him, "If your wife can read and write, that is sufficient and a blessing. You must marry a woman who first protects you from sin, from looking left and right, and consequently you protect her. Second, she fulfills the duties of the house and the duty of raising children, if Allah blesses you with a child. What about being a da'iyah or not? In this time, there are few men who are da'is, let alone women. In the name of being da'is, how does a woman leave her country without a mahram (relative one may not marry) in the path of what? Calling to Islam? Allah is the Greatest. This is like one who builds a palace and demolishes a fortress in the path, or like the authentic hadith:
The scholar who does not act upon his knowledge is like a candle that burns itself and lights the way for others. مثل العالم الذي لا يعمل بعلمه كمثل الشَّمعة تحرق نفسها وتضيء لغيرها
So this woman travels a forbidden journey. It is not permissible for her to travel from here to the south to the Ka'bah except with a mahram. And here she is traveling from here, turning her back on the Ka'bah. Why? She claims to call to Islam, or is she calling herself to Islam? Her calling herself to Islam is to adhere to the rulings of her religion. So, in early Islam, there were no da'is in the true sense of the name, female or male, who would set out like this and converse with men. There was no such mixing in the time of the Companions or the Tabi'un (the generation after the Companions), no, no. Yes, there was a woman to whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) granted correct knowledge, who stayed in her house. Women of her kind would come to her to learn from her. This is, of course, rare and obligatory. But to set out like this, as if she were a man, with nothing preventing her from traveling here and there, while she reads the authentic hadiths? In the previous lesson, in the men's lesson, three hadiths came to us in "al-Bukhari and Muslim" and others, from three of the Companions of the Messenger (peace be upon him), each of them saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel لا يحلُّ لامرأةٍ تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تسافرَ ثلاثة أيام
Sahih al-Bukhari 1088
. In another narration:
Two days يومين
. In another narration:
A day and a night. يومًا وليلة
. In another:
A day. يومًا
.
To travel for a day except with her father, her brother, or a mahram from her. أن تسافر يومًا إلا ومعها أبوها أو أخوها أو ذو محرم منها
.
A woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day must not make a journey لا يحلُّ لامرأةٍ تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تسافر سفرًا
Sunan Abi Dawud 1726Sahih (Al-Albani)
So if the woman is truly a da'iyah for Islam, let her start with herself and call herself to Islam. Otherwise, the saying of the poet applies here:
"You disobey Allah while you display your love for Him *** By your life, this is a marvel in reasoning
If your love were sincere, you would have obeyed Him *** Indeed, the lover of one he loves is obedient to him."
And this research is, in reality, long-tailed, so this amount is sufficient for us. And Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.
