Explaining the misguidance of those who equate the believer and the open sinner in faith and permit everyone to say, "My faith is like the faith of Jibril."

The Shaykh : This protects us from falling into the sin that some of the great scholars fell into when they expressed the view that there is no difference in their estimation between the greatest and the least of the believers. They said: "My faith is like the faith of Jibril." In the view of these people who say that faith does not accept increase or decrease, the most wretched and most sinful person is the same as the greatest and best person who worships Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The most wretched and most sinful person, as well as the greatest, all have the same faith in their estimation. Therefore, it is permissible for one of them to say: "My faith is like the faith of Jibril, my faith is like the faith of Jibril." The one who stands in prayer at night and fasts by day, and the one who does not perform the five daily prayers and commits major sins and wrongs, their faith is the same in the estimation of these people who got entangled and said that faith does not increase or decrease. Even though Allah (Mighty and Majestic) described His believing servants by saying: [Al-Mu'minun 23:1-6], and in other verses He mentioned such attributes for the believers and concluded them (Blessed and Exalted is He) by saying: [Al-Anfal 8:4]; so there are believers in truth and there are believers not in truth. How is it permissible to say that the degrees of faith for all people, the obedient and the disobedient, are on the same level?! Therefore, it is permissible for everyone among these people to say, "My faith is like the faith of Jibril." This is one of the errors that we find explicitly stated in the books of creed known as the science of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) or the science of kalam.
(1) Certainly will the believers have succeeded: (2) They who are during their prayer humbly submissive (3) And they who turn away from ill speech (4) And they who are observant of zakah (5) And they who guard their private parts (6) Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -
Those are the believers, truly.
